Mile 15: I got hit by a car.
I will never understand it, but by some miracle nothing horrible happened. My front wheel got slammed by a Subaru running a red light at 30 miles per hour...and I lived to tell about it. Not only that, but my bike was completely fine. Explain that one.
Needless to say, I kept going.
The rest of the day was not quite as eventful but definitely a little calmer. I ate lunch with a very nice guy named Bill while watching a little league baseball game, and got a free banana from a girl working a quaint little farm store on the side of the road. Then it started to rain. Just my luck, right?
Being the end of the day I found a place to camp, made a fire, and enjoyed a bowl of pasta alone in the woods. It's a lonely world out there when the sun goes down, but I suppose the next day brought enough good luck to make up for it.

I was struggling at the start of day 2. Lonely, sore, and in the middle of nowhere. But just when I thought I was doomed to travel to the tune of my own dismal thoughts, something miraculous happed:
I found friends!
That's right. Less than 10 miles into the day I caught a glimpse of a fully loaded touring bike up ahead. Excited at the prospect of a mere conversation, I found one better. Two girls, traveling the exact same route as me (one again, thank you Adventure Cycling Association).
After a short introduction, I started riding with them for the rest of the day. Being on my way back to my house in CT to spend the night, they hopped on the opportunity for a place to stay. I don't know how long we'll be riding together, but a few days with company is a great gift that came at the perfect time.

Alright Brian,
ReplyDeleteIf I'm going to follow your blog for the next few months can you make these posts more interesting? hehehe! Just kidding. But honestly, take those open miles on the road as time to work on some jokes. I love puns. Just thought you should know.
